Boil Water Advisory Issued for Portions of Endicott Water System
The Village of Endicott Water Department has issued a Boil Water Advisory for specific areas of the Endicott Water System following a loss of pressure caused by multiple water main breaks on Taft Road in Endwell. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to boil water before use until further notice.
Affected Areas
The advisory applies to the following locations:
O’Day Drive
Taft Ave (from O’Day Dr to Twist Run Rd)
Twist Run Rd. (from Taft Ave to Farm to Market)
Hillside Terrace (from Twist Run Rd to Chrysler Rd, including all connecting streets)
Chrysler Rd.
Farm to Market Rd. (from Chrysler to the northern end of the water main)
Sally Pipper Rd. (from Farm to Market to Cummings Rd)
What Happened
At approximately 8 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2025, multiple water main breaks caused a significant loss of water pressure in the affected area. Repairs are underway and are expected to be completed by Sunday, Jan. 12. However, state health regulations require water testing to confirm safety before the advisory can be lifted.
What You Should Do
Residents and businesses in the affected areas should follow these precautions:
Do NOT drink water from the tap without boiling it first.
Boil all water for at least one minute and allow it to cool before drinking, cooking, washing dishes, brushing teeth, or making ice.
Alternatively, use bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health.
Boiling kills harmful bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. Special caution is advised for infants, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, who may be more susceptible to health risks.
Health Information
Harmful microbes in drinking water can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. If you experience these symptoms and they persist, consult your healthcare provider.
Next Steps
Repairs are expected to be completed by Sunday, Jan. 12, and water testing will continue for several days to ensure safety. Residents and businesses will be notified via local news outlets and the Village of Endicott’s webpage once the water is deemed safe to drink.
If you have not received notification by Jan. 16, 2025, please contact the Endicott Water Department at (607) 757-2445 (Option 3) to confirm the status of your water.
