Change in Local Law Designed to Protect Rights and Crime Victims

On December 6, 2021, the Endicott Village Board approved a Building and Nuisance Law change.

A conviction or guilty plea stemming from a crime or code violation committed at the residence can no longer be counted against the property if an owner or tenant first reported it.

The goal is to remove the risk that someone may not report a crime, such as domestic violence, for fear of losing their home as part of the points accumulation system used to declare a property a public nuisance and potentially shut down.
