Washington Avenue Revitalization Projects Update

The Village of Endicott Washington Avenue Revitalization Committee would like to thank everyone that participated in the survey and provided comments regarding the streetscape redesign options for Washington Avenue as part of the Village’s Downtown Revitalization Project.  Over the last several weeks we have received a great deal of feedback on what members of the community like or dislike on each of the three options and are reviewing all comments as we update our design plans.

We anticipate that we will release a revised design to the public within the next few weeks. The Village will be seeking further comment on those revised plans as we look to finalize the Washington Avenue Streetscape improvements design and continue moving forward with the Avenue Parking Lot and Gateway designs that are also included in our revitalization plans.

Watch our website and the Village of Endicott Facebook page for updates as the process moves forward.

The Village of Endicott would like your input on the Washington Ave. Revitalization Project. The project is partially funded by the NYS Department of State and is in the early development stage. When complete, it will transform Washington Ave. into a destination for residents and visitors to our area. The project captures all of the Ave. from Main St. to North St., as well as northeastern portion of Ideal Alley and a section of the adjoining parking lot. New gateways will be constructed, pedestrian areas reconfigured for improved mobility with consideration for outside functionality of the neighboring businesses, and parking improved along the Ave. Other improvements will be pedestrian scale lighting, landscaping, improved access to public transportation, installation of new midblock crossings, and other site amenities.

We have evaluated multiple configurations for Washington Ave. and have narrowed what is still under consideration to three options that are shown on the website https://theaveinendicott.com/. If you would, please take a minute to visit the site, review each of them, and then provide us your preference by filling in the data below the images. Your feedback will be provided to the VoE board, along with input from the businesses along and near the Ave. A selection on which option to advance into final design is expected at the VoE board meeting in September. Each of the options still under consideration, as shown on the site, will have a travel lane in each direction, at least one bike lane, parking, and designated loading zones and bus stops. They also contain a table showing the proposed average sidewalk width, how much hard space (concrete) and green space (landscaping) there is, along with the number of parking stalls that would be available (along the Ave). One thing to note with all of the options under consideration – right now, there is very limited green space (landscaping) along the Ave. All of the options under consideration incorporate greenspace. The new green space is equal to a minimum of roughly ¼ of the sidewalk (concrete) spaces. The “typical” PDF’s contain what the Ave would like in cross section view.
